I've spent the last two weeks trying to come up with the words and I still can't seem to wrap my head around my time in Mirissa. I keep starting to write this and then I get stuck because it honestly was indescribable... And Katie summed it up in her blog post better than I ever could so because I'm just gonna keep this short and sweet.
Where do I even begin?! The time Katie and I spent here has been unbelievable. It was finally a place where we could relax and breathe it all in... Where I had the beautiful realization that this is my life right now and that I'm not meant to be anywhere else. The people we have met while being here are ones I don't think we will ever forget.
We swam in the ocean while the sun was setting, trying our best not to get taken by waves but laughing whenever someone did... We played some intense games of beach volleyball and also some of the most entertaining games I've ever played in my life... We stayed up all night partying on the beach or sitting around a bonfire, and went to bed only after watching the sun rise... We swam for almost an hour out to explore an island only to find that it was literally all rocks and not really meant for sitting around... We went surfing and thanks to Katie's patience and stellar teaching I finally stood up a few times which was pretty damn exciting... We took a scooter to check out different beaches in Unawatuna and Tangelle (and Katie didn't crash thank god)... We spent our Christmas Eve having a huge dinner with other travellers and our Christmas morning walking down the beach with Santa hats and coconuts... And we had an amazing NYE partying on the beach with hundreds of other people.
This whole experience has been amazing and I still catch myself daydreaming and having to remind myself that it all actually happened. Even as I write about it it doesn't seem like everything could possibly be real.
I thought about writing something small about each person we met here but I'm not sure I could keep it contained to one sentence, but I just want to say thank you to everyone we met here for helping make this trip into what it was. I can't imagine it going any other way and I'm honestly so grateful and appreciative for the time we had with you all! What a beautiful place filled with so many beautiful people! I can only hope I'll get the chance to see you all again someday!
