In the spirit of the season....
One time (in grade 4?) I went to my best friend Hillary's house to play. Our friend Alix was there already and we went straight to the backyard. Hillary's parents weren't home and she and Alix immediately started telling me a scary story while we sat on the swing set.
A few minutes before I arrived they had gone into the bathroom and called upon Bloody Mary three times. They said she came out of the mirror and chased them out of the house but luckily they escaped in time. Because of that we weren't allowed to spend more than ten seconds in the house at a time. I was terrified!! I MAY have been fairly gullible (I probably still believed in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy) but it seemed like a pretty realistic story. I pictured this crazy lady with a bloody face chasing us through the house and trying to kill us. Obviously I was very much ok with staying outside for the rest of the afternoon because going inside seemed too risky.
Maybe 20 minutes later Hillary suggested that we get popsicles since it was so hot out.
"But how are we gonna get them if we can't go inside?!" A concerned Kara asked.
They reassured me that I had a better chance of getting out alive because I wasn't the one who had angered Bloody Mary. So I built up my courage and they sent me in (with that looming ten second time frame) to grab popsicles for us. I was counting out loud to myself and fumbled trying to get the popsicles out of the freezer. I was over my time limit and bolted back outside, afraid to look back in case she was on my heels. They were probably laughing at me the whole time I was in there! When I got outside they asked if I saw her and said how I was lucky to make it out since I was in there too long. But like always - the popsicle brought me peace and helped to calm me down. I didn't question any of it.
When my mom came to pick me up a few hours later we went through the house (against my wishes). Just as I was getting into the car Hillary called me back to the house. Laughing, she and Alix told me how they had made the whole thing up and that Bloody Mary wasn't even real! That meant that our whole hangout was just me being secretly made fun of and laughed at for being scared. I was not impressed. Some kinda best friend... Haha JK Hill, but just you wait - someday I'll get you back! (insert evil laugh)
